Poem

writing goal: Keep reader engaged through out

i can see it all but no one knows me

i can see it all but no one knows me

i can see it all

the smiling faces

the tears

the laughter

the good times

the hard times

i watch the children grow and the teachers nurture

i can see it all but no one knows me

i can see it all

the friendships

the growth

the struggles

the learning

the joy

i can see it all but no one knows me

my doors open to welcome and close to protect

my roof keeps everyone dry and safe

my walls hold work and master pieces

my windows watch the seasons pass and the children play

do you know me now...?

  1. You definitely met your goal with this poem. I was engaged throughout reading your poem. The repetition of phrases and the pattern kept me wanting to read more to see what you were going to describe next.

  2. I really liked that you gave the reader little glimpses/clues as the poem went on. I kept wanting to read on to figure out what you were talking about! I think this kind of poem that leaves the reader in suspense and guessing would be really fun for our students to write!

  3. You hit your goal on the mark! I was curious throughout the entire poem as to where you would go next. This would be wonderful to share with students to showcase how to keep your readers guessing when creating a poem or story.

Time

I sit and hold you and watch you sleep in my arms. Your little chest moving up and down and your tiny fingers clamped around my necklace. You are just three months old. I sit here and admire your sweet red hair and soft skin. Tears roll down my face knowing how short this time is since you are my third. I want to bottle you up and keep you this little forever, but I know what a gift it is to watch you grow into your own little self. I hear your brother and sister playing in the background and once again I am reminded how fast this precious time goes. I close my eyes and let time stand still for just a little bit and think how lucky I am to have had just one more baby. I soak it in and as your eyes open and you look up at me... I am reminded once again time does not stop and to enjoy each moment.

Summary

In this writing course I have acquired valuable information for providing effective research based writing instruction. There many important research based writing practices that I walk away with as we end our time together. Writing time in schools is limited and as we have learned this is a problem. We have learned that providing high quality daily writing instruction and time to write allows students to continue to grow in their writing and thinking. Teachers must allow students the opportunity to work through the writing process.  Each part of the writing process requires students to elicit various knowledge and skills. It is important to give students feedback through out the various parts of the process. Feedback plays a key role in providing quality writing instruction and should be given throughout the process. Teachers should analyze students' writing to help them plan future lessons to give students what they need to continue to grow as writers. Throughout the entire...
